"I am an individual who for all my life had been spiritually sick, so confused about life and the powers of man, about how to maintain myself on earth, that I had lost my way as a normal human being. But I am now a man with hope—thanks to Kabbalah and all those wonderful people over time who have been channels through which the great creative spirit of the universe works."
- Inmate, Trinidad State Prison, Death Row
At its heart, spirituality is about creating a sense of connectedness within an individual and with his or her world. It is a looking inward to fulfill our potential to achieve happiness, love, joy—all the things we really want out of life. It is looking outward to foster positive connections with other individuals and with the greater community, experiencing the meaning and happiness that comes from sharing with others.
A key concept is that spirituality helps us foresee the consequences of our actions and their impact on others and on ourselves. When a participant in the program begins to understand and recognize the chain of Cause and Effect, he or she now knows that positive actions bring great rewards. "What’s in it for me?" becomes their motivation—the only kind of motivation that inspires people to create genuine change in their lives.
